Choosing the Right Generator
Not sure which type of generator is right for your needs? Understanding the differences between portable, standby, and inverter generators can help you make the best decision for your home, job site, camping, or RV adventure.
Portable or Home Standby Generator?
Portable Generators
are a flexible, cost-effective solution for temporary power. They’re ideal for job sites, camping, or short-term home backup during outages. These units can be moved as needed and typically are able to run on natural gas, liquid propane, or gasoline. Many units are capable of running on at least two of those fuels for added flexibility.

Home Standby Generators

are permanently installed and kick in automatically to provide power during an outage. Connected directly to your home’s electrical system, they offer seamless, whole-home or partial backup power—making them the best choice for long-term reliability and convenience. Most are able to run on natural gas or propane, but are factory-configured for one or the other and must be manually reconfigured to switch fuel source.

Generators vs. Inverter Generators
Traditional generators are built for power and capacity, making them ideal for running large appliances, tools, and multiple devices at once. They’re a dependable choice for backup power and demanding applications.
Inverter generators, on the other hand, are designed for efficiency and clean power output. They’re typically quieter, more fuel-efficient, and better suited for sensitive electronics like laptops and phones—making them popular for recreational use and light-duty applications.
